Vadivukkarasi

Pretty face…fair complexion…it was believed in those days that if you had these two, you could become an actress in Tamil films, but Vadivukkarasi found a place for herself in spite of having a dark complexion. How she got her name is rather interesting. She is a relative of prominent director AP Nagarajan. The day his film ‘Vadivukku Valaikapu’ was released, she was born. So she was named Vadivukkarasi!

Before entering films, she used to work for Doordarshan. Bharatiraja introduced her in ‘Sivappu Rojakkal.’ Director Balaguru’s ‘Kanniparuvathile’ elevated her to status of heroine.

The films that gave scope to exhibit Vadivukkarasi’s talent were J Mahendran’s ‘Metti,’ Bharatiraja’s ‘Mudhal Mariyadhai’ and Sundar C’s ‘Arunachalam.’

Vadivukkarasi

Among the few rare actresses like Manorama who are still in films, Vadivukkarasi is one.

She has acted in more than 350 films in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada. She is more interested in films than in serials. She is doing the role of Rajini’s mother in ‘Sivaji.’ Director Ravi has given her a very powerful role in ‘Acharya.’

Vadivukkarasi wants to act till her last breath and is definitely set to make her mark in more films on the silver screen.
