Srividya was born into a family of musicians. Her mother was famous musician M L Vasanthakumari. Srividya made her debut as a child star in KR Ramanna's film 'Nee.'
Despite compulsions from her family to carry on the music lineage, Srividya's love for cinema drew her towards acting.

Her important films are 'Sollathaan Ninaikkiren'and 'Apoorva Raagangal'as a leading actress. She has acted with leading heroes like Sivaji, Rajini and Kamal.

At the height of her fame, she fell in love with and married George, a Christian. This also turned out to be her misery. She lost a great deal of what she had earned and divorced George. She however got back to acting earnestly in films again.

Two years back, Srividya sold her bungalow in Chennai and went to Thiruvananthapuram. She still retains the Chennai flat in her name.

In Kerala, she started to act in a Malayalam serial called 'Amma Thamburaaty'for a private television channel. But she developed health complications when starting work on the 50th episode, so the serial was dropped.

She first took treatment at the Ernakulam Matha Amrithanandamayi Hospital. Since she did not stay in touch even with people close to her, no one knew what was wrong with her.

She is now at the Uthiram Thirunal Hospital in Thiruvananthapuram, undergoing treatment for advanced stage of cancer. When actor Kamal went to see her recently, Srividya has shed tears. Since it is indecent to talk about a person's ill health, nothing is known about Srividya's present state of health.

All we can do is pray that Srividya comes back to normal health as soon as possible.
