"Jeevan plays a rowdy character called Thotta. Priya Mani is a college student. Love blossoms between them but instead of going about narrating their love story in the usual manner, I have created the screenplay in a new way," says director Selva.
He adds, "'Thotta' is my 18th film and should be an important landmark in my career. Please do not brand it as an ordinary commercial film. I have made the story journey down a different path. This film does not evoke physical reactions through fisticuffs and murders. It will touch the emotions in your heart. I have attempted to show a new quality and new color in the film. If people accept it, I will try other new things."
The story takes place in Chennai and its surroundings. Songs have been shot at Pollachi and Kerala. A big godown set was put up at Chennai for shooting.
"About 12 days of shooting happened and then stopped for various reasons. When we resumed after an interval, Jeevan, Priya Mani and I were surrounded by victorious lights. Since the 3 of us have shown evidence of more business capability, we have discarded the first 12 days' work and have started again on a big scale. So, one could say that the delay has worked to our advantage," says Selva on a sentimental note.
