It is difficult to shoot for long in places like train stations and airports where lots of people keep moving around. Due to recent spate of terrorist related attacks and threats at train stations and airports, the security measures are also tough.
These reasons make it difficult for getting permission to shoot there. For an airport scene, the 'Sathyam' crew had to go to Dubai to shoot.
Jeevan was to act in 'Payanigal Gavanithirkku' to be shot entirely in trains but permission was not granted. The screenplay by the director totally revolves on scenes in the trains. To shoot the film, one has to rent a train at least for a month. But the railway authorities were not amenable to it. So the project was dropped.
In 'Padikadhavan' also, there's a railway station scene. To wait for permission would mean a delay of 6 months, so they have put up a grand set like a railway station at Ramoji Rao Film City in Hyderabad. It may cost lakhs but need not hang around for permissions. Nor does one need to have time restrictions on when to complete the shooting.
The film may be 'Padikadhavan' but the people are smart!
