Many luminaries, devotees, party leaders and followers were present. Karunanidhi spoke thus:
"I'm very happy to participate in an event like this, conducted by a section called minority. Nowadays, our regime is being called a minority regime. You will know how much a matter of pride it is.
Thomas is called Thomaya and ayya should not denote just certain class of people. It is referred to one who is an exalted personality.
It's an insult to god to ask if Karunanidhi will accept god. It is more important that I should behave in such a way that god accepts me. The Chera, Chozha and Paadyas who defeated King Pari are not famous but the name of King Pari figures prominently in literature. They plotted and killed St. Thomas, but the names of the killers are not known. St. Thomas is who remains in people's hearts."
According to legend, when St. Thomas came to Chennai 2000 years back, he is supposed to have met Thiruvalluvar in Mylapore. This incident takes place in the film. Since there was talk of approaching Rajini to do the role of Thiruvalluvar, it created a stir amidst those gathered!
