Pasupathy is the main character in the film but Vasu has used Pasupathy less and Rajini most in the publicity to sell the film. The producer went along with it if the profits were nothing to complain about.

Pyramid Saimira bought all the rights for release of the film for 61 crores based on the calculation that this is a Rajini film, so they could make good money. Kavithalaya and Seven Arts made a neat profit out of this. But Pyramid Saimira is supposed to have undergone loss of about 20 crores.

Distributors who bought it outright may suffer a loss of up to 50% and those who bought through MG may suffer a loss of up to 60% because of 'Kuselan.'

'Rajini is not the central figure in 'Chandramukhi' too. But how did the film run so well? On examining, it's said the negative thoughts are what is hampering the success of 'Kuselan.'

The fact that Rajini has been saying from the beginning that he's not a central character in this film and the controversy over Rajini's apology to the Kannadigas, are surmised to have created unease and contributed to the failure of 'Kuselan.'

Rajini's sentiment that any of his films released in August result in failure seems to have been proved.
