- 07.02.2008

Ever since the Tamilnadu govt announced concessions for films with Tamil titles, there has been so much confusion over names. There is still debate over what is a Tamil name, a north Indian name or English name.

A Tamil fanatic like Seeman who is thinking of Tamil 24 hours, has himself added an 'ik' to his title 'Vazhthukkal' so you can imagine the plight of others.

'Alayam' featuring newcomer Sembi will shortly go for censorship. Till now, it was thought that aalayam was a Tamil word. After work was completed only it came to be known that aalayam is a north Indian word. So they are enquiring if they would get tax concessions.

A Sathyajothi Films production directed by R Kannan has been titled 'Jayam Kondaan.' It is said that only kondaan is a Tamil word and jayam should be replaced with vetri that is its Tamil equivalent.

Madhavan, Bhavana

Sathyajothi's earlier firm 'Emden Magan' had the same title confusion and was eventually renamed as 'Em Magan.'

If 'Jayam Kondaan' is shortened to 'Kondaan,' it would hardly be attractive!
