The once great villain R.S.Manohar passes away

R.S.Manohar is an actor of such importance that the Tamil cinema can never overlook. He was the forerunner to villains such as M.N.Nambiar. Known as the ‘Protector of Drama’, R.S.Manohar passed away at 6.00 this morning.

The 81 old Manohar slipped and fell down in his house some weeks ago. It is learnt that he had a head injury in this fall. Arriving in the hospital, he did not respond to treatment and he died.

R.S.Manohar was a native of Thiruvarur. His father Subramania Aiyar was a Post Master. Rajalakshmi Ammal was his mother. Born in 1925, R.S.Manohar too started his acting career in Drama like other artistes of that day. Recognizing his service to Drama, he was conferred with the honour of ‘Protector of Drama’.

R.S.Manohar became a hero in the film ‘Rajambal’. But he could not continue to be a hero in films. He became known in the villain roles. ‘Vannakkili’ in which he acted as a villain can be described as a turning point in his career.

R.S.Manohar, who acted in about 350 films, is survived by his wife Sitalakshmi. He will be cremated at the Besant Nagar crematorium this evening.
