Yes, we were quite surprised when we went to Ragasiya's house in Mumbai. We felt we had stepped into the house of a middle class family. We belong to the middle class. Father Pappu is a photographer. He does not get too many assignments. You can hear my mother Lalitha's sewing machine all the time in my house. But mom brought us all up with such care. My elder sister Rekha is married. My younger sister Roopa wants to become an air hostess. She's studying very hard.
At one time, we suffered even for food. I used to stitch the buttons or sew the hems for the clothes mother stitched. I used to give tuition to the kids in the neighbourhood.
I did not even have money for film to make a photo album. One of my father's friends took my photos. I sent those to many film companies. That's how I got the 'seenaa daanaa' opportunity.
Some people see me only as a one item dancer, with not too much respect. I want to play good character roles and win the National Award. I have no boy friends nor am I interested in love. My only wish is, if I yearn for something, let at least my younger sister attain it. She's the princess of our family," said Ragasiya.
Hearing Ragasiya speak, she went up in our esteem.
