For sometime now, Bollywood is gripped in the fever of historical dramas. After Subash Chandra Bose, Bhagat Singh and Jhansi Rani, the fever has extended to epics. Panchali (Draupadi) was wife to the 5 Pandava brothers and behaved in such a way that she never hurt any of them. When Dushasana removed her sari in front of all the kauravas, she vowed to avenge the insult with Dushasana’s blood. She even had an important role in the war.
Rajkumar Santoshi wants to make a film about this important lady character, so he got the story ready and even opted to cast Aishwarya Rai in the main role. Director Rituparna Ghosh got the script ready for ‘Draupadi’ and his story also centres on Panchali to be played by Bipasha Basu.
For long, we have seen same stories emerging from different directors in Bollywood. Rajkumar Santoshi has always been one of the top directors of Bollywood, who has made films on historical themes.
