The music release function of Revathi Varma's 'June-R' starring Jyothika, Khushboo and Saritha, took place yesterday at Chennai.
The chief minister has recently praised the sangeeta chakravarthy saying, "I'm a devotee of his music." Balamurali Krishna was the VIP at the function and he released the first cassette, which was accepted by singer Usha Uthup. Clad in a dazzling Kanjeevaram silk sari, Usha Uthup fell at the maestro's feet for his blessings and one could see the joy on his face.
"I have sung for films in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and other languages and at one time, I have even acted in films. One of my earliest roles was as Narada in a Telugu film. This set a precedent and I continued to be cast as Narada! So, I put a full stop to acting. You know why? Narada has no heroine!" said Balamurali Krishna in a humorous vein.
Usha Uthup did a beautiful rendering of Vande Mataram. "I have been singing for the past 35 years, but I'm yet to receive an award. For most of my songs, they have only done cabaret dance," said Usha in a resigned tone.
In response, Revathi Varma said, "Even I have danced a cabaret number to your song when at college" and Usha burst out into musical peals of laughter.
The film's music composer Sharath has been an assistant to Balamurali Krishna. When the songs were played, the guru closed his eyes, savoring the music of his sishya.
Of the 3 leading ladies of the film, only Khushboo was present. Clad in a designer choli, she made a fetching subject to the photographers present.
Cinematographer Madhu Ambat, lyricist Muthukumar and others attended the function.
Producer Ansari honored the special invitees with silk shawls.
