Despite opposition to crude lyrics of unsavory songs, lyricists like Vali, Vairamuthu, Pa Vijay and Snehan continue to indulge the whims of directors by coming up with tasteless lyrics. (This may be just peanuts compared to the injustices meted out to women in the outside world, but that is another matter).
The head of the Tamil Workers Welfare Association suddenly realized what a terrible situation this is. He filed a petition in court saying Vali, Vairamuthu and certain other lyricists should be put behind bars in the name of eve-teasing.
The judge who conducted the enquiry postponed the hearing as the question that arises is, who is to judge what is obscene? Moreover, only those affected can file a case, he said.
He added to the snub by saying the Censor Board is there to declare what lines are obscene.
It must be mentioned here that Vairamuthu has apologized in a publication for writing suggestive lyrics. Instead of merely apologizing, he would do well to donate the money he earned through these vulgar songs, to charity causes.
