In 2001, Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai were very much in love. During that time, a drunk Salman is supposed to have called her up in the middle of the night and threatened, "You have to dance at the party organized by Abu Salem (Mumbai dadha) abroad."
When Aishwarya refused, Salman threatened to have her and her family shot by the Mumbai mafia.
In July 2005, a national publication produced the controversial tape which had the recorded conversation between Salman and Aishwarya that night, as evidence. In this connection, the Hindu fanatics resorted to hooliganism, citing to be outraged by the fact that a Muslim had dared to threaten a Hindu.
If it was proved that the taped conversation was a fraud and Salman Khan was after all not guilty as charged, what would the protesting groups do? How would they choose to make up for the losses incurred by the theatre owners, distributors and producers?
The voice samples of Aishwarya and Salman were compared with the controversial recorded tape at the Forensic Science Laboratory, Chandigarh. And it was proved that there was absolutely no resemblance in the controversial tape to the real voices of Salman and Aishwarya.
Hot headed activists, who become mischief makers even before knowing what is true, should learn a lesson from this, not to jump into conclusions.
Because of the needless havoc wreaked by them in another instance, the court has directed the Shivsena and BJP to pay a fine of Rs.20 lakhs. Similarly, the court should penalize them for wantonly damaging theatres and putting a slur on Salman's reputation.
Only such measures will put the fear into blade wielding, mischief making gangs.
