Scheduled for an April 14 release, the date was postponed as work on the film was not yet complete. Then AVM announced that the film would be released on May 31 on a wonderful full moon day as also Rajini's favorite Thursday. The film was also sent to the Censors.
Theatre owners then threw a bombshell that they want a part of the 'Shivaji' profits. They took a stand that they would buy 'Shivaji' or any other film only if they got a percentage of the box office collection.
This confusion led to confusion among distributors. After weighing the pros and cons, a new area sales was started. As of today, Chennai and Kovai areas have commanded a heavy price. Abhirami Ramanathan has bought the Chennai area rights.
Because of these new developments, 'Shivaji' is getting released on June 15. On that day, the much awaited 3rd pirate film titled 'Pirates of the Caribbean – At World's End' is to be released world wide. It will be released in Tamil as 'Caribbean Kallarai Theevu – Ulagathin Ellayil.'
At the end of the first week, 'Spiderman 3' has grossed 19 crores in India alone. Critics predict that 'Caribbean Kallarai Theevu – Ulagathin Ellayil' could break that record.
So, tough competition awaits 'Shivaji' on June 15!
