The Tamil version is co-produced by K Balachander's Kavithalaya and Malayalam production company Seven Arts Film. The Telugu version is produced by Aswini Dutt and GP Vijayakumar.
In Tamil, Rajini plays an actor and Pasupathy is his friend who runs a saloon. Nasser and Vadivelu could play the roles of Pasupathy's well wishers.
In the Telugu version, Rajini plays the actor role, but his friend will be played by Jegapathy Babu instead of Pasupathy. Jegapathy Babu's friends will be played by comedian Paramanandam, Sunil and Venu.
The heroine has not yet been finalized. Only when that is done, would it be decided if the same one will play heroine in both versions.
