The differences between Gautham and producer Aascar Ravichandran created so much bitterness that one wondered if the release would take place at all. But the release did finally take place at Sathyam theatre yesterday.
There were no chairs on the dais, no chief guests and the function started sedately. Because a compere would cost money, Gautham himself took the mike and did the honors. Any hidden meanings in his speech would have been evident only to those in the know.
Each song was released by a distinguished guest coming on stage to release it. The chosen ones were Sivakumar, Udayanidhi Stalin, Soundarya Rajini and director Sasi Kumar. Gautham showed novelty in releasing one song by the children of the graphic artists.
Major Ravi, who trained Surya in army practices and the Major General who helped with shooting in the Dehradun area were invited for the function and honored. It was nice to see Soundarya Rajini release the song sung by Sruti Kamal.
"I have acted with Sivaji and MGR. Surya has done what those great actors have not. Surya's portrayal spans from a teenager to an old man - 16 year old to a 60 year old.
To look like a 16 year old, Surya lived on a diet of greens for a long time, abstaining even from chappatis. He has worked that hard for the film," said Sivakumar and Surya beamed at the praise and affection in his father's voice.
There are 7 songs in the film, one being a gana type. This is the first gana song by Harris Jayaraj. Usually, they screen the songs first at an audio release function. In this instance, 2 songs were screened in the second half of the function. Judging by that, the songs are sure to be a hit.
