Krishna was pleased that Mahabali stood by his promise even when faced by death. As a reward, he granted Mahabali the boon to visit the earth once every year. Malayalees celebrate this visit of Mahabali as the Onam festival.
In Malayalam cinema, normally a minimum of five Mahabalis visit during Onam. This year the count is less by one.
The first Mahabali is Mammooty's 'Nehru Ariyaan C.B.I'. This is the fourth film in the series 'Oru C.B.I. diary kurippu'. Mammooty's previous film 'Raapagal' did not enjoy a great run. He is eagerly waiting for the results of this film.
Next, Mohanlal's 'Naran'. He had worked very hard in a double role in his previous film 'Udayon'. This film was a hit the first week, but the next week, the crowds thinned & this film fell into the Paadaalam like Mahabali. Only the success of 'Naran' can lift Mohanlal's market like a crane.
Dilip had reached first place in the Malayalam Cinema field, overtaking Mammooty and Mohanlal. Tough luck. His recent films have been pukka flops. His latest movie 'Paandipadai' was just ok. He is depending on his Onam release film 'Saandhu pottu' to regain his status. His performance as an Ali in this film has rattled his competitors.
Kala Bhavan Mani has joined this race with his film ‘Loganathan I.A.S’. Even a minor victory for this film would create a record.
The entire Chera Naadu is waiting in nail biting suspense to see which Mahabali is going to be appreciated & which ones pushed down to the Paadaalam.
