Thirupati turned festive with the presence of a mammoth number of 10 lakhs of supporters. Amidst the large congregation, cries of cheering and a little bit of lathi charge to control the crowd at the meet yesterday, Chiranjeevi announced the name of his party and its ideals.
Chiranjeevi was born on August 22, 1955 in the Godavari district of Andhra. His original name of Konithala Sivasankara Prasad was changed to his screen name Chiranjeevi for his first film 'Pranam Kareedu.' He played the villain role in Rajini's film 'Raanuva Veeran.'
He fast rose to superstar status. He has faced a slide in his success twice in his film career, and each time he overcame that through re-make films. The first time, he acted in the re-make of Mammootty's Malayalam film 'Hitler the Great.' Thye next time he acted in Ramana's re-make of 'Tagore.'
For having used his fan clubs to do service to the people like starting eye donation and conducting blood donation camps, he was awarded the Padma Bhushan. Yesterday at the meeting, he announced that his new party would be called Praja Rajyam. The party flag has white on top, green at the bottom, and a blazing red sun in the middle.
Nine months after starting his party, NTR got into power. Next May is the elections to the Andhra parliament. People are waiting to see if Chiranjeevi will also get into power then.
