Director Lohitadas is no more

The sudden demise of national award winning Malayalam director Lohitadas has stunned the Malayalam film industry.
'Sudrakaari,' ‘Sakkaramuthu,' ‘Boodhakannadi' are some of the films directed by Lohitadas. In Tamil, he directed ‘Kasthurimaan.' When he suffered a massive heart attack yesterday, he was admitted to a private hospital in Kochi but despite intensive treatment, he passed away.
At that time, a general committee meeting of the Kerala Actors Association was being held in Kerala. On hearing the sad news, the meeting was suspended and actors like Mohanlal, Mammootty and others paid their respects.
Lohitadas introduced Meera Jasmine into films through ‘Sudrakaari.' A few years back, there were rumours that she and Lohitadas were in love. He has written screenplays for 14 films and directed 11. ‘Boodhakannadi' that he directed won the national award. The last film he directed was ‘Neivedhyam.' He is survived by a wife and daughter.
The last rites of Lohitadas were performed at Lakkidi near his hometown Ernakulam.
