Thamizh padam
It is a full length comedy spoof on Tamil films.
The male children born in the village of Cinemapatti are poisoned to death. Reason: they grow up and enter cinema; they enter politics with the hope of becoming the next Chief Minister. Consequently the government does not do anything to that village. So, the Panchayat decided to kill all the male children. Protecting the baby born to Periyardasan’s wife the midwife brings it to Chennai. The name of that child, now a grown up youngster is Shiva. Living in slum area as a secret police he is smashing all the hooligans. Finally he arrests the gang leader and takes him to the court.
Every scene of stereotyped films we have been seeing in Tamil cinema is parodied in the film. The first scene starts with the killing of the female child in ‘Karuthamma’. There the female child was poisoned; here the male child is poisoned. The first scene itself sets the tone of what to expect. An old lady commends to the boy who came running after witnessing the activities of the hooligans saying: “if you have to grow up go press the cycle pedal,.” By turning the cycle pedal, the boy grows up to be a young man. Going to the hooligans’ den, he takes every one of them to task thereby he mocks at every filmy hero.
As Shiva’s love blossoms for heroine Disha Pandey the song he sings ‘oh mahasiya…’ is made up of several humming from various films songs. Azhagu demands to know how she will ever give her daughter who is a millionaire in marriage to him who is poor. She commands the servant to bring coffee. At that Shiva pledges to become a crorepathi and leaves. He returns as a rich person just by selling milk, providing ironing services and distributing newspaper. Just then the help brings coffee which makes Azhagu remark in wonderment ‘you became a crorepathi before the help could bring coffee’. That is hilarious.
Every hero comes to ridicule in the film: the statue of Ramarajan by the side of the cow, Rajkiran biting a bone with a full spread of food in front of him at a desolate place; Ponnambalam threatening “to project that fellow’s film a hundred times if the Panchayat’s decision is not obeyed.’ It is a non-stop comedy of poking fun at all heroes.
The comedy of Vennira Adai Murthy, M.S.Bhaskar and Manobala appearing as college students is excellent. It is highly enjoyable when a graphics crow flying and pecking the top of his head when Murthy starts indulging in double meaning dialogues. All the spoof of the first half gives way to the second half which is tedious. The village episode becomes a drag on the film’s screenplay. Nirav Shah’s cinematography shows a lot of commercial colour and Kannan’s music is of a laughing variety.
