Mudhal Mudhal Mudhal Varai
It is a first effort in Tamil but if the dizzying details had been avoided, one could heartily congratulate the director's efforts. The story and characters are urban and may not reach the general public, who may not identify with the situations; hence the commercial viability of the film is in question. However, it is not a run of the mill film and the director would surely get recognition for his unique effort.
Ad film director Sathyajit wants to become a feature film director. But all efforts in that direction end in failure. His girlfriend Anuja Iyer is afflicted by a deadly disease and she's counting her days. She says her condition to marrying him is only after he becomes a film director. With such a target, the film's climax shows whether Sathyajit achieves his dream and Anuja her dream wedding.
The appearance of the same character and non-stop continuing scenes may be new but for those not used to this genre of films, these scenes may cause ennui. Too many cut shots in the first 15 minutes of the film could have been avoided. But the creativity of director Krishnan Seshadri Komatam can be lauded in many instances.
One can see the talent of a gifted stage artiste in Sathyajit. His amazing changes of facial expressions and delivery of dialogues are noteworthy. Saran as the assistant director and heroine Anuja Iyer impress. Keevna's dance with a black dancer is so sexy, it should definitely be a hit with the young crowd.
A grandfather who pesters for turning on the cricket channel, the one minute when one learns that he's a blind person go in favor of the director. The student regretting cheating her mother and the First Death idea in the climax are reminiscent of short film episodes. "Don't try to make a film, make the film," is a piece of advice that's like a tonic of self confidence.
Camera by Fowzia Fathima, background score by Aslam Mustafa, editing by B Lenin, sound by Lakshminarayanan have supported the director well.
'Mudhal Mudhal Mudhal Varai' is a new effort.
