Muthirai
This is a story of those who have lost direction. A bit of action, a bit of comedy, a bit of romance and a bit of glamour, combines to make this a masala entertainer.
Nitin Sathya is a thief who steals the hundi, boards a running bus and comes to Chennai. Daniel Balaji is a different type of goon. He's a passport stealer. Though their modus operandi is different, the one common element they share is stealing.
This track is on one side. On the other, we have the police on the hunt for the killer of Chief Minister Saravanan. Circumstances lead them to Nitin and Daniel. Important evidence in the murder is in the laptop that is now with the hero thieves. After the laptop evidences, the story reaches the climax.
After doing villain roles, Daniel has been promoted to a good guy role in this film. With his hi-tech stealing and heartbeat racing romance, he hits 2 birds with one stone. While Daniel is restrained, Nitin Sathya speaks endlessly. His saucer eyes lend itself to his character as well as comedy. Nitin poses as a CBI officer and Manjari must be crazy to fall for that line.
Lakshmi Rai plays a bar dancer who wants to earn through her beautiful looks. While keeping her yearnings hidden within, she speaks eloquently with her eyes in a bewitching manner. The bar dance is super!
Since from the beginning one is able to gauge who the killer of the CM is, those scenes are lacking in interest. The chase scenes after the intermission are OK. Thotta Tharani's art and Salim's cinematography attract attention.
With a little more effort, 'Muthirai' could have left an imprint.
