  Nee.. Naan.. Nila..

Barathan, Megna

We have seen different ghost stories in Tamil cinema but this is one film with ghost and romance of a different kind that earns the film a pass mark.

Bharathan and Ravi are 2 college boys who compete in everything from sport to studies. Bharathan may be rough and tough in action and words, but he's an innocent guy. In every action, Ravi is low and measured and tries to achieve what he aims for.

Classmate Meghana is good friends with both of them. At one point, both of them fall in love with Meghana. Because of his hurry, Bharathan is able to only make a spot on Meghana. With his smartness, Ravi is able to make a kolam itself in romancing with Meghana. Who will Meghana choose? Meghana clearly says Ravi and with that awesome statement that puts a heavy weight on Bharathan's heart, the film breaks for intermission. The climax however ends on an interesting note.

Barathan, Megna

Bharathan, Ravi and Meghana are all newcomers but they have done their level best to give a mature performance and should be commended for that. Karunaas as Ravi's friend enlivens dull moments in the film with his comedy.

The film drags a bit for the first half and just when one is fed up with the director, he quickens the pace of the second half and brings in interesting elements.

After a road accident, Ravi tries to meet Meghana but she ignores him. Just when one is wondering about this confusion, viewers come to realize with a shock that it is Ravi's ghost. This sudden turning point earns kudos to the director. The climax is also rather different.

Meghana's portrait drawn by Bharathan does not get wet in the rain because Ravi holds an umbrella over it. Such scenes speak for the director's good imagination.

If the slack first half and songs imposed on wrong moments in the film had been avoided, 'Nee Naan Nila' could have shone more.
