Sila Nerangalil
We may sometimes wonder what we would have been in our previous birth. Director Jayaraj has given an interesting screenplay based on that curiosity.
The disturbed Navya Nair is put in a shelter home. Vincent Asokan is put in charge of taking care of her. Who is Navya? Why is she so disturbed? To delve deep into the inner recess of her mind, the hero seeks the help of famous doctor Raghuvaran.
During treatment, Navya's memory goes back slowly in stages to her previous incarnation. During that process, she discovers that in her previous birth, Vincent Asokan tries to kill her. Greatly disturbed by this, she comes to her senses with a shock and the audience is also sitting on the edges of their seats by now.
Now that both hero and heroine know that they have been re-incarnated, the knot in the story is unravelled in the climax.
Even though it's a story about re-incarnation, director Jayaraj should be appreciated for not giving the film a ghost story effect and for giving a tasteful twist to the screenplay.
Till the intermission, even though the suspense in Raghuvaran's character is maintained, the suspense about what would happen next is sustained till the end, keeping the interest of the audience.
Having done villain roles till now and shouting at the top of his voice, this film is a turning point in Vincent Asokan's film career.
Excess love over his wife is also a cause for needless suspicion and the way these emotions are portrayed is very nice.
In the scenes showing Navya in her previous birth, her beauty shines through. Pangs that her innocent adoration of singer Vineeth makes her husband needlessly jealous is well portrayed and would evoke a response in all women members of the audience.
After a long time, Vineeth also has a new character role. How he yearns for a cigarette even in advanced stages of throat cancer is portrayed in a novel manner. There could be no one who laughs at Ramesh Khanna's dialogues as being comic.
It looks like Raghuvaran will not change his style of acting even for the next 20 years. For how much longer will he continue to speak as if he's breathless?
Three of the songs are so melodious, one wonders if the music composer is really Srikant Deva. The dance choreographer also deserves special mention.
The story core is small, but through his interesting screenplay, the director has delivered a scintillating film.
'Sila Nerangalil' is enjoyable.
