Vannathupoochi
Director Azhagappan C has depicted the yearnings of a young child for the affection and guidance of parents in the hell of a city life.
Srilakshmi is the daughter of software engineer parents. They are a couple totally engulfed in their mechanical routine, with no time to even notice if their school going daughter has returned home.
When this child goes to the countryside to spend her school holidays with her grandfather, she receives so much love and care from him that she refuses to be parted from him and return home. The girl's parents go to court because of this. Whether the girl continues to bask in her grandfather's love forms the rest of the story.
The director must be appreciated for handling a theme with so much relevance in the present time. Kudos to him for pointing out the drawbacks to parents gently, without hurting their sentiments.
It's a pity that the newcomers acting as the parents have not been pushed to give a more meaningful performance. Their expressions are more artificial than a kid's drama.
The first meeting between little girl Srilakshmi and her grandfather Balasingh is very touching. Her mature talk and realistic acting earns the little girl much admiration. The song "Kaatril kaatril vannathupoochi...." set to music by Rehan makes the heart soar. Extra attention could have been paid to the technical aspects.
This 'Vannathupoochi' should sit in the hearts of parents.
