Deepavali releases: Who will win?
- 04.11.2010

By Amalan
Gone are the days when during Deepavali, one could await 10 film releases. Like a donkey being reduced to an ant, for the last few years, it’s a miracle if just half a dozen releases take place at Deepavali. This year, 16 films are ready but the theaters are in demand and hence, only 5 films will be released. Here’s a short view of these films.

Myna

This is the fourth film directed by Prabhu Solomon after ‘King,’ ‘Koki’ and ‘Lee.’ Vidarth makes his debut as hero (He has acted in ‘Thottu Paar’) and Anaka Paul is the heroine (she acted in ‘Sindhu Samavali’). Produced by John Makes, Kalpathy S Agoram and Udyanidhi Stalin release the film.

Since the story line is a very novel one, the entire Tamil industry is eagerly awaiting its release. Director Bala and Kamal have already seen the film. And when they came out with moist eyes, they congratulated director Prabhu Solomon on the film. D Iman has done a great job of the songs and background score. We once again remind you that after seeing the film, Udayanidhi Stalin spent a couple of sleepless nights!

Uthamaputhiran

After ‘Yaaradi Nee Mohini’ and ‘Kutty,’ Mithran Jawahar directs Dhanush in ‘Uthamaputhiran.’ It is the Tamil remake of hit Kannada/Telugu film ‘Ready’ featuring Dhanush and Genelia with around 25 popular stars including Bhagyaraj, Vivek and Karunaas.

Director says it’s a love story based against a family background. About 75% of it is comedy. Vivek as Emotion Ekambaram is supposed to be a laugh riot. Mohan Appa Rao and D Ramesh produce the film for Balaji Studios and the film will be released in 600 theaters.

‘Va Quarter Cutting’

This is the second directorial venture for husband-wife duo Pushkar-Gayatri who had directed Arya and Pooja in ‘Oram Po.’ Because of the title, tax exemptions have been denied by the Tamilnadu govt. The film features ‘Mirchi’ Siva, Lekha Washington and SPB Saran.

The hero comes to Chennai with his brother-in-law before going to Saudi Arabia. He meets certain people and the events that follow form the story. It all takes place in just one night. Produced by S Sashikant, the film is released by Dayanidhi Azhagiri.

Vallakottai

Arjun and A Venkatesh team up again in this film. Haripriya is the heroine. Venkatesh says the Malayalam film ‘Mayavi’ is the inspiration for ‘Vallakottai.’ Arjun goes to a village to help out his prison mate’s family. The problem he faces there forms the story.

Chithirapoove

Apart from the 4 films listed above, newcomers Sandeep and Thamirai will appear in the daring Deepavali release ‘Chithirapoove.’

It’s said ‘Myna’ will touch the hearts of rasikas and ‘Uthamaputhiran’ could take second place in popularity.
