'Vanakkam Thalaiva' - A shooting visit
By:
Palaniswamy
As we walked into the Kasi Arcade shopping complex, a strongly built 6-feet tall Sikh was walking past us. As we were thinking that we have seen him somewhere, we were pushed into a shop from the corridor by three people cautioning us with the words 'sir, field'. Only then it dawned on us that they were shooting 'Vanakkam Thalaiva' and that the Sikh who walked past us was Sathyaraj.
Once director Shakti Parameswar cleared 'Shot' OK,' cinematographer Suresh Devan got involved in the lighting for the next shot.
We appreciated Sathyaraj for the get up that suited his height and complexion. He was relaxing on a chair and asked us to take the chair next to him.
He said, "This is no great get-up. I am appearing in six more different get-ups, each totally different from the other. This is the first time in life that I am doing 7 different roles in 'Vanakkam Thalaiva'".
When we approached Shakti Parameswar just to know the concept of the scene, we saw him busily adjusting the model mannequin in various positions for the next shot for Sathyaraj.
Cinematographer Suresh Devan handed over the measuring tape to his assistant and was measuring the distance between the camera and mannequin and adjusting the lighting and aperture of the camera lens.
Once finished, the assistant director brought Sathyaraj and Shakti Parameswar asked him to stand by the side of the model mannequin. Sathyaraj did so without even a small movement and the shot was completed.
Before the next shot was ready, we asked Shakti Parameswar about the concept of the scene. He said "Sathyaraj abducts Abbas's sweetheart and Abbas comes to the Sikh's Association housed in this building to enquire about Sathyaraj. Without knowing
anything about it, Sathyaraj walks into the complex for shopping. On sighting Sathyaraj, Abbas chases him and Sathyaraj runs in and out of the shops. We have taken those shots very interestingly. Now we are doing the shots related to Sathyaraj. Soon Abbas will join us."
After doing 'Suryaparvai', 'Looty' and '3 Roses', Shakti Parameswar hopes 'Vanakkam Thalaiva' will give him the right break. Stating that producers Anandan and Palanivel are giving him full cooperation, he gave us more information.
'Vanakkam Thalaiva' is full of sentiments, action and comedy and for the first time features Vivek as a Police Inspector. The hilarious comedy scenes of Sathyaraj and Vivek, actress Susan's glamour and Pranathi's performance will all add to the weight of the film.
Sakti Parameswar expressed hope that this will be the start of the second inning for Abbas, and we took leave.
