In recent times, something has gone into Cheran’s brain that makes him feel that he is a director unequalled in Tamil films.
Without realizing what he says, he has made new reporters as his target. All this started happening only after the success of ‘Autograph’.
Cheran’s contradictions, if they can be counted, will add up to a big bundle.
There were many who could not trust him with their investment, when it became a rumour that he made unwanted expenses in ‘Vetrikodi Kattu’ and made Sivasakthi Pandian, the producer worry.
That is the time when he thought of acting and ‘Autograph’ was started. When the movie was in progress, he was quite nice when he had financial problems. But after the film became a hit, Cheran assumed a halo around his head.
Till then he sought the support of the reporters. But when ‘Thavamai Thavamirundu’ was started, he never cared for them.
The change was similar to that of Sathyaraj who, after the success of the film ’Amaidipadai’ started sitting straight and crossing his legs.
When some newspapers termed him as the heir to Sathyaraj, it went to Cheran’s head.
When some newspapers pointed out the drawbacks in ’Thavamai Thavamirundu’, he became indignant. The reports were not unjustified for him to be angry. The reports only indicated that a B.E. Graduate need not have suffered so much in showing a hand pulling vehicle and the time taken in producing the film.
He didn’t like that. He has claimed that he is a thinking director and he has taken a realistic film.
How can anyone who can’t tolerate criticism become a good director? You be a realistic director. But if the film is going to stretch for four hours, who will be responsible for the audience fatigue? What measure does criticism amount to in the dictionary of Cheran.
The purpose of criticism is to indicate the good and the bad of any work. Talking about the highlights alone will be the preview. What is the justice of Cheran’s anger in castigating someone who has reviewed his film in a website and accusing him as a bastard? Is it right?
In this context, for the press meet of this new film ‘Mayakannadi’, he has invited only a few press persons. The thirty of those who wrote nice of ‘Thavamai Thavamirundu’ alone found place in it.
It is Cheran’s personal wish whom to invite and whom not to. No one has the right interfere in it. But Cheran’s words in that press meet was very uncivilized.
"I have invited only my well wishers. If I was going to invite others, I will not be worth of even the base metals" says he.
Does it mean that you are including Kamal, Rajini, Ajith and Vijay who invite everyone for interview in that list? They are all gold who are grateful for the ladder, but Cheran, it is time you realized that you are the base metal who differentiates the press.
Granted. But even there, did you answer the questions raised by the press people. There again, only your ego was presiding.
The man who disclaims Oscar awards, claims himself to be the heir of Satyajit Ray in his posters. A bundle of contradictions.
Cheran, you need not be friendly with press persons. But don’t be wrong with them.
Stop frying yourself in your own anger. Realise that there is more to cinema than Cheran alone.
