* For some directors movie is an art, for some it is a passion, for some it is an experiment, for some it is a challenge…but for Perarasu, cinema is creating magic. Drawing the attention of the audience from frame-to-frame and keeping them engrossed enough to watch the fun without losing interest is an achievement. He has succeeded in this aim in ‘Sivakasi’ (Express) too. The story of ‘Sivakasi’ (Muthappa as Vijay is called in his village) starts just 5 minutes before intermission. Though the first half of the movie is made on the lines of a Telugu production, it slowly changes to a typical Tamil style narrative after Muthappa narrates his story to Hema (Asin). Asin does not have much of a role to play in this film except in one scene where she questions Vijay about whether he has any idea about what family affection means. And she performed well in the pattu maami song also.
* Through out the movie, there are good jokes here and there that bring a smile to your face. But the big comedy is the scene where an assembly election is shown as if a Panchayat election is being conducted. It is acceptable that Prakashraj and Vijay's sister are independent candidates. But what about other big parties? Though Prakashraj is a son of the soil, how will people vote for him continuously for 3 times when he is the cause of his father death, treats his mother like a servant and throws his sister out of the family? As for the mother-in-law character…that is too much and unimaginable.
* As usual in Tamil movies, the hero is an angry man to the highest degree. And as usual, the rich modern damsel falls in love with a poor guy. As usual, there are dialogues praising the hero(ism). As usual, the main villain and side villain transform from bad to good in the climax. As usual, the hero will go to any place on earth just like that to establish truth as believed by him. As usual...Thank god, there are no police in the climax scene. Director sir, please move toward the next generation.
* However, the one unusual thing in this movie is that Saranya (wife of Prakashraj), an obedient and traditional wife, removes the Thali from her neck and gives it to her mother (communicating indirectly to kill her husband). At least now, the directors who are making this kind of movie are coming out of the thali sentiments.
* There it is Padayappa, here it is Muthappa…There it is 'Maadathilea kanni Maadathilea,' here it is 'Ennathe solrenungo,'…There it is multiple get-ups in a song (Nee nadandhal nadai azagu in ‘Basha’) and here, Vijay is in multiple get-ups in a song… There it is 'Ini
Chandramukhi Darisanam,' here it is ' Ini Saravedi'. This similar pattern will be sustained in all his movies as long as it ensures grand success.
* When can we see 'Kannukul Nilavu' Vijay in his movies?
* Sivakasi - Old wine in old bottle with deluxe coating.
