International Cine appreciation Forum has been in the forefront in introducing world cinema to Chennai cine fans.
It has endeavored to bring cinema from France, Italy, Turkey, Germany, Israel, Iran, Lebanon, Algeria, Australia, China, Japan, Chile and so on. It continues to bring such films even today.
The international film festival due in December this year would be a mega international show. More than 100 films will be featured in this show.

The Turkish Film festival was organized by this Forum last month at the South India Film Chamber theatre. The films screened were by 5 important directors.
ICAF conducted this show in collaboration with the embassy of the Republic of Turkey, Delhi. The Consulate General Dr. V L Dutt inaugurated the festival. 5 important films were screened in this festival that took place on 28th, 29th and 31st. These directors are celebrated and respected globally.
On 28th, the film screened was 'The Bandit' directed by Yuvaz Turgul. Released in the year 1996, this film won Germany Bogeuy Award and also won the Golden Dolphin at the International Festroia - Troia film festival.
Yuvaz Turgul was born in Istanbul, Turkey's capital, in 1946. He has a lot of similarities with our Charan, Simbudevan and Susi Ganesan. Like them, Yuvaz Turgul has been a journalist. He started writing scripts in 1948 and directed his first film in 1984. He became instantly popular in Turkey with his first film 'Fahriye Abla.' He then directed several films featuring the leading star in Turkey Sener Sen.

Two films were screened on 29th. The first was 'Under Construction' directed by Omer Vargi. This film portrays the life of two construction workers. The film that deals with these two who are planning to smuggle themselves out to Italy, was greatly appreciated by the audience.
The second film was 'Off Side' directed by Serdar Akar. Comparing life with football, this film won 4 awards for the best actor, best director, best film and People's Choice in the Istanbul Film Festival.
Respected as the most celebrated director in Turkey, Serdar Akar was born in 1964 in Ankara. A graduate in Economic and Commercial Science, he completed his study in Cinema and TV course in 1994 at Mimar Sinan University. His first film 'On Board' released in 1999 got him the best director in Turkey award.
The final day of the Festival saw the screening of two films, one of which was 'Boats out of Watermelon Rinds' directed by Ahel Ulucay. Released in 2004, it won several awards globally. Some of them are best film at the International Film Festival at Ankara, International Film Festival at Istanbul, the Golden Antigone award at Montpellier Mediterranean Film Festival and the best director at the San Sabastion International Film Festival.
The second film was 'Borrowed Bride' directed by Turkey's most celebrated director Atif Yilmaz. Born in 1925 in Turkey's Mersin region, he passed away on 5th May last year. Directing his first film in 1951, Atif Yilmaz is considered as a veteran director in Turkey. Beginning in 1951, he has directed about 114 films.
Writing scripts to meet his expenses, he was a painter too. He indulged in painting again to meet his expenses.
Before he became a director, he was a critic like the new wave directors of France, Francois Truffaut and Goddard. Several of Turkey's directors of today have been trained by him. His films have won several awards including 'Golden Prize' and 'Golden Palm' in Moscow International Film Festival.
Following the Turkish Film Festival, ICAF is to conduct film festivals of other countries this month. In the Algerian Film Festival, 'The Battle of Algiers' will be screened. Its director Gillo Pontecorvo is a documentary film maker and a political activist. He has been a political activist even as a student and achieved many goals. The film that has the Algerian struggle for freedom against French colonists, was released in 1965. This film created a sensation all over the world and won the Golden Lion at the Venice Film festival.
